For e-CLIL at Villa Wolkonsky, Rome.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Their class, IV A joined an extensive reading project last year as Liceo Bruno at the end of which the students have read almost 400 English audio books of increasing difficulty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The three young \u201cambassadors\u201d brought with them a few videos and power point presentations edited in the new school lab under the supervision of Mr Giorgio Ruffa (IT person).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Together with tens of high school students from all over Italy, they kept a stand in the ballroom of the Villa where they were welcomed by HM British Ambassador Mr Christopher Prentice. They showed their materials to British researchers and authorities from MIUR such as Mr Luciano Chiappetta (Capo Dipartimento Istruzione) and Ms Gisella Lang\u00e9 (Ispettore Tecnico di Lingue Straniere) who found their spreadsheet particularly useful. An electronic spreadsheet was designed by the students with the help of their maths teacher, Ms Daniela Querci della Rovere to rate the books read by the class.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3605\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3605\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3605\" src=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/QueenEl2.jpg\" alt=\"Her Majesty The Queen in Rome on 3April 2014 with flowers from the Villa Wolkonsky Gardens.\" width=\"300\" height=\"466\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3605\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Her Majesty The Queen in Rome on 3 April 2014 with flowers from the Villa Wolkonsky Gardens.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Villa Wolksonky<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Villa Wolkonsky<\/em>, the Residence of the British Ambassador in Italy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em> The Villa Wolkonsky was built in the 1890s by the descendants of the Russian Princess Zenaide Wolkonsky, the wife of an aide-de-camp to Tsar Alexander I.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>In 1830, the Princess\u2019s father gave her a large piece of land near the church of San Giovanni in Laterano (the Pope\u2019s Church in Rome). The plot included thirty-six bays of the aqueduct spur which Nero added to the system constructed by Claudius in the middle of the 1st century AD.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The Princess built a small villa incorporating three of the aqueduct bays\u2028and created a garden with roses, sculptures and Roman statuary as the main features. After her death in Rome in 1862, her son Alexander lived in the \u2028villa and he uncovered the Roman tufo tombs beyond the aqueduct. During the rapid expansion of Rome in the 1870s, much of the estate was sold off for development. The sales enabled the descendants of the Princess, the Campanari family, to build a new, imposing villa on the site. The house was greatly extended in the 1930s with the addition of two wings and a fourth storey, and the Princess\u2019s original villa was also enlarged at the same time. Five columns were used to build a little roofed temple.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The Villa Wolkonsky has been the British Ambassador&#8217;s Residence since 1947. The main State Rooms are maintained by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office\u2019s Estates Division and most of the pictures are from the Government Art Collection.<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3612\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3612\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3612\" src=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/foto22.jpg\" alt=\"In alto da sinistra: G.Lang\u00e9 e L.Cinganotto\" width=\"300\" height=\"554\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3612\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sul balcone: G.Lang\u00e9 e L.Cinganotto<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>L\u2019INDAGINE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">di Filippo Voltolina, 4A<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Il\u00a0<strong>progetto biennale <em>READ ON! for e-CLIL<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00e8 stato promosso da MIUR, British Council e Ambasciata Britannica, in collaborazione con la casa editrice Oxford University Press con l\u2019obiettivo di promuovere la\u00a0<strong>lettura estensiva<\/strong>\u00a0in inglese nelle scuole superiori, collegandola alla metodologia CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Grazie a un questionario recentemente somministrato a conclusione del progetto dalla nostra insegnante di inglese, la professoressa Daniela Baroni, ci siamo interrogati sui seguenti punti focali:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong><em>Quando hai iniziato a leggere libri? (Da quanto tempo ti consideri un lettore vero e proprio?)<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Di solito compri\/prendi in prestito da amici o dalla biblioteca\/scarichi i tuoi libri?<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>3.Cosa rappresenta per te la lettura? <\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\"><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Un\u2019attivit\u00e0 educativa\/divertente\/noiosa\/obbligatoria, <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\"><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 una perdita di tempo\/una via di fuga\/un piacere\/altro<strong>\u2026.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\" start=\"4\">\n<li><strong><em>I tuoi libri sono:<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><em>tutti\/per la maggior parte legati alle attivit\u00e0 scolastiche\/liberamente scelti da te<strong>? <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\" start=\"5\">\n<li><strong><em>Quand\u2019 \u00e8 il tuo momento preferito per leggere? <\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><em>All\u2019ora di dormire\/di pomeriggio\/di domenica\/in vacanza\/in viaggio<strong>\u2026<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\" start=\"6\">\n<li><strong><em>Quali titoli ti colpiscono di pi\u00f9?<\/em><\/strong><em> Quelli dei<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><em>classici\/ thriller\/gialli\/storie d\u2019amore\/\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\"><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u2026 libri storici\/fantascienza\/avventura\/&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\" start=\"7\">\n<li><strong><em>Qual \u00e8 il tuo genere preferito?<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><em>Racconti\/romanzi\/saggi\/teatro\/poesia\/libri storici\/favole\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;\" start=\"8\">\n<li><strong><em>Leggerai ai tuoi figli? <\/em><\/strong><em>S\u00ec\/ Non so<strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dalla tabulazione dei dati raccolti su un campione di 19 alunni, possiamo trarre le seguenti conclusioni sull&#8217;opinione di noi giovani riguardo la lettura.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Un 50% degli studenti campione ha iniziato a leggere libri con una certa regolarit\u00e0 e piacere fin dalla scuola primaria, mentre i restanti si ritengono dei \u201cbuoni lettori\u201d solo a partire dalla fine della scuola media,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Una buona met\u00e0 preferisce comprare i libri, o scaricarli da Internet, per il piacere di \u201cpossederli\u201d, mentre la restante met\u00e0 li prende in prestito dalla biblioteca o da amici.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tutti concordano sulla valenza educativa della lettura. La maggior parte ritiene che leggere sia un piacere, specie se non collegato alle attivit\u00e0 scolastiche, in quanto \u00e8 importante sentirsi liberi di scegliere cosa leggere, quindi leggere ci\u00f2 che pi\u00f9 piace e nei momenti in cui non si \u00e8 stanchi a causa del carico che i compiti scolastici richiedono, attraverso una costante lettura intensiva dei testi didattici.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Il momento preferito per leggere \u00e8, per la maggior parte degli studenti, in vacanza proprio perch\u00e9 finalmente hanno pi\u00f9 tempo libero. Una piccola percentuale riesce a farlo quotidianamente nelle pause dallo studio come efficace relax e via di fuga dalla realt\u00e0.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Solo le ragazze sono attratte anche dai titoli che preludono a storie d\u2019amore, mentre le maggiori preferenze vanno ai titoli di thriller e ai romanzi d\u2019avventura o fantasy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Il genere letterario pi\u00f9 amato \u00e8 il romanzo e in minor misura i racconti brevi. Un solo alunno predilige anche le poesie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Quasi l\u2019unanimit\u00e0 degli studenti riconosce che in futuro legger\u00e0 ai propri figli proprio per la valenza formativa sul piano dell\u2019acquisizione del linguaggio. Tutti concordano sul piacere della condivisione di emozioni nuove attraverso il leggere e sentir leggere che, oltre a stimolare la fantasia, crea complicit\u00e0 tra genitore e figlio<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In conclusione, la riflessione scaturita a seguito di questa indagine ci ha portato a essere pi\u00f9 consapevoli della nostra motivazione nei confronti della lettura, migliorando i livelli di apprendimento sia nella lingua inglese che, di riflesso, nella lingua italiana.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3607\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3607\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3607\" src=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/ReadOn.jpg\" alt=\"ReadOn\" width=\"300\" height=\"454\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3607\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marcella Bellio e Giada Simionato 4A<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>THE READING SURVEY (ENGLISH ABSTRACT)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Filippo Voltolina<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the end of the <strong><em>READ ON! for e-CLIL<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0project Ms Daniela Baroni, our English teacher, carried out a class survey about the students\u2019 attitudes to reading.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">19 students from year four (4A) answered the following questions:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>What time did you start reading books (in particular how long have you been a proper reader)?<\/li>\n<li>Do you usually buy or borrow from friends or libraries? Do you ever download books?<\/li>\n<li>What does reading represent for you? An educational\/funny\/boring\/mandatory activity or a waste of time? A getaway\/a pleasure\/other\u2026?<\/li>\n<li>Are your books all\/mostly tied to school related activities or freely chosen by you?<\/li>\n<li>What is your favourite reading time? Bedtime\/afternoon\/Sundays\/holidays\/travelling\u2026?<\/li>\n<li>Which titles attract you most? Classics\/thrillers\/detective stories\/love stories\/historical books\/science books\/ sci-fi\/adventures?<\/li>\n<li>Which is your favourite genre? Short stories\/novels\/essays\/plays\/poems\/fairy tales\/ other\u2026?<\/li>\n<li>Will you read for your children?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The results of the data processing are the following.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">50% of the students started reading as early as primary school. While the other 50% have been good readers since junior school.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">More than a half prefers to buy books because they love the idea of possessing a book. The same percentage of kids download from the Internet. Another half usually borrows from friends or libraries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Everybody agrees on the educational value of reading.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Most students read just for pleasure in their free time and they love choosing their books outside school activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To them the best reading time is on holiday. Only a small percentage reads every day when they find a break from the homework. They say they can relax when they read. Reading to them is a sort of escape from reality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Girls only are attracted also by love stories. The favourite genres are thrillers, adventures, detective stories and fantasy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Novels are loved better than short stories. Only one student enjoys poems.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All the students think they will read to their children because they believe in reading as a powerful educational tool. Everybody thinks reading helps the development of imagination.
