Chernobyl was largely abandoned following the disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant located 14.5 kilometres (9 miles) away. Ukraine was part of USSR on the 26th April 1986 when the disaster occurred.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Chernobyl nuclear disaster began in the early hours of Saturday 26 April 1986 within the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. An explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive contamination into the atmosphere, which spread over much of Western USSR and Europe. It is considered the worst nuclear power plant accident in history and is one of only two classified as a level 7 event on the International Nuclear Event Scale (the other being the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The disaster began during a systems test at reactor number four of the Chernobyl<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6089\" src=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/chernobyl1.jpg\" alt=\"chernobyl\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>BANDIERINE ROSSE<\/strong><br \/>\ndi Daniela Baroni<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Il primo maggio 1986 la televisione italiana trasmetteva rassicuranti immagini della Piazza Rossa in festa. In molti, grandi e piccini, sorridevano e sventolavano bandierine rosse mentre Michail Gorbachev, Segretario del Partito Comunista dell\u2019Unione Sovietica celebrava la Festa del Lavoro e dei Lavoratori.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Da cinque giorni una sinistra nube radioattiva minacciava la salute e la serenit\u00e0 di mezza Europa. Una trentina di persone erano gi\u00e0 morte a Chernobyl per le radiazioni dovute all\u2019esplosione del reattore nucleare ucraino, erano tecnici e vigli del fuoco. Un\u2019altra ventina tra periti e liquidatori sarebbero morte presto. Altre migliaia avrebbero continuato ad ammalarsi, per esempio alla tiroide e a morire, per esempio di leucemia. Anche a Raisa Gorbacheva (1932-1999) si sarebbe ammalata di leucemia per poi morire.
