Every time I stepped foot in a new place, my jaw dropped open and I got that tight feeling in my chest when I know I am lucky enough to be witnessing something spectacular \u2013 know what I mean?<br \/>\nNow that I am huddling by the heater in my apartment in Venice, I figured it was high time for some sunshine and beautiful views from this trip.<br \/>\nHere are the views in Greece that blew my mind<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Following<\/strong> <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>paths<\/strong> <strong>of<\/strong> <strong>monks<\/strong> <strong>towards<\/strong> <strong>Meteora<\/strong><br \/>\nIf there was one place I was looking forward to the most this winter, it was visiting Meteora in central Greece. From what I\u2019ve heard, this huge Eastern Orthodox monastic complex was unlike anywhere else in the world \u2013 and given just how overused that phrase is nowadays, I was hoping it would ring true. I wasn\u2019t wrong.<br \/>\nIf the unearthly landscape of massive pillar-like mountains and columns weren\u2019t striking enough, monks went ahead and built huge monasteries on<br \/>\ntop of them 500 years ago. 6 of them are still working<br \/>\nmonasteries nowadays and are open to the public if you are\u00a0willing to make the trek up to them. Trust me, it\u2019s worth.<br \/>\nA view from Meteora is spectacular no matter where you\u00a0stand, and it will make even the most seasoned traveler say \u201cwow\u201d out loud. In fact, I have about 600 photos from a few\u00a0hours exploring there to prove it.<br \/>\nWhile Greece is full of beautiful vistas and spectacular sites,\u00a0you\u2019d be hard-pressed to find one more unique and with so many fabulous views as you get in Meteora.<a href=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/9A575609-2E05-48CE-A11B-4B2046949A72.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8599\" src=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/9A575609-2E05-48CE-A11B-4B2046949A72-640x427.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/9A575609-2E05-48CE-A11B-4B2046949A72-640x427.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/9A575609-2E05-48CE-A11B-4B2046949A72-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/9A575609-2E05-48CE-A11B-4B2046949A72-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/9A575609-2E05-48CE-A11B-4B2046949A72-800x533.jpeg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Communing<\/strong> <strong>with<\/strong> <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>Gods<\/strong> <strong>at<\/strong> <strong>Delphi<\/strong><br \/>\nBeing the massive nerd that I am, and the fact that I have studied for five\u00a0years Ancient Greek culture, a trip to Greece would be incomplete for me without stopping in Delphi.<br \/>\nThe center of the ancient world and supposedly discovered by Zeus, Delphi later became the hub for worshipers of the god Apollo, and where the famous oracle of Delphi dwelled.<br \/>\nVisiting the museum is a marvelous experience, inside it you can find some of the most important antiquities of the Ancient Greece, such as the Heniokhos (Charioteer of Delphi) or the impressive \u201ckuroi\u201d Kleobis and Biton.<br \/>\nDelphi is a great location in Greece with great views from just about anywhere and it\u2019s also the place where you can feel the spiritual devotion of the Ancient Greeks. I\u2019m converted. I\u2019ll go back anytime.<a href=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/6DE67AB5-93C7-4E64-ACCB-34231647E012.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8600\" src=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/6DE67AB5-93C7-4E64-ACCB-34231647E012-640x427.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/6DE67AB5-93C7-4E64-ACCB-34231647E012-640x427.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/6DE67AB5-93C7-4E64-ACCB-34231647E012-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/6DE67AB5-93C7-4E64-ACCB-34231647E012-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/6DE67AB5-93C7-4E64-ACCB-34231647E012-800x533.jpeg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Feeling<\/strong> <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>Orthodox<\/strong> <strong>faith<\/strong> <strong>at<\/strong> <strong>Hosios<\/strong> <strong>Loukas<\/strong><br \/>\nHoping to squeeze in one more monastic complex in Greece before departing, I had heard about the beauty of Hosios Loukas.<br \/>\nIt was a rainy day and I was coming back from Delphi to\u00a0Athens; situated on a\u00a0remote picturesque\u00a0hilltop below Mt.\u00a0Elikonas, the Monastery of Hosios Lukas is among the most important Byzantine architectural monuments extant.<br \/>\nThe main church will make you gasp as you enter with its Italianate marble walls and fantastic golden mosaid frescoes on the ceilings.<a href=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/F6B254FB-39E5-4C69-9933-A373D592435D.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8602\" src=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/F6B254FB-39E5-4C69-9933-A373D592435D-640x426.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/F6B254FB-39E5-4C69-9933-A373D592435D-640x426.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/F6B254FB-39E5-4C69-9933-A373D592435D-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/F6B254FB-39E5-4C69-9933-A373D592435D.jpeg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Living<\/strong> <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>Greece\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>crisis<\/strong> <strong>in<\/strong> <strong>Athens<\/strong><br \/>\nWhile in general I might not have fallen in love with Athens, I did realize I need to go back and give it a second chance.<br \/>\nExploring the Acropolis, the place I have studied and read\u00a0about for as long as I can remember, was incredible.\u00a0Acropolis\u2019 iconic Parthenon and the demure robed maidens (Caryatids)\u00a0supporting the roof of the Erechtheion temple\u00a0alongside made me<br \/>\nrelived the moments\u00a0when two years ago I studied these monuments in Art History.<br \/>\nThe modern, vast Acropolis Museum sits just below, and beautifully protects the site\u2019s artefacts while placing them in context.<br \/>\nDuring my free time in the afternoon, I walked around ancient Athens, browsing through the bric-a-brac in the daily Monastiraki Flea Market. Shoulder-to-shoulder shops and kiosks hawk a riot of souvenirs, clothes, leather goods, jewelry and burnished antiques. Nearby\u00a0Plaka reminded me of Santorini\u2019s paths with their stairways, this district is infact a warren of historic streets jammed with souvenir shops.<br \/>\nHowever, spending time in Athens made me understand the serious effects of 2008\u2019s economic crisis. The city\u2019s center is full of abandoned buildings (some of them are even not finished!!!) and you can see homeless people at every corner of the streets.<br \/>\nAnd despite recent talk of Athens being \u201cthe new Berlin,\u201d the city still struggles with poverty, riots and drug crime, not to mention continued reverberations of the refugee crisis.<a href=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/C326199A-D973-46CA-9AD4-7CC0060A2DF0.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8603\" src=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/C326199A-D973-46CA-9AD4-7CC0060A2DF0-640x480.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/C326199A-D973-46CA-9AD4-7CC0060A2DF0-640x480.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/C326199A-D973-46CA-9AD4-7CC0060A2DF0-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/C326199A-D973-46CA-9AD4-7CC0060A2DF0-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/C326199A-D973-46CA-9AD4-7CC0060A2DF0-800x600.jpeg 800w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/C326199A-D973-46CA-9AD4-7CC0060A2DF0-400x300.jpeg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Imagining<\/strong> <strong>to<\/strong> <strong>watch<\/strong> <strong>an<\/strong> <strong>Euripides\u2018 tragedy in the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus<\/strong><br \/>\nLocated on the fertile Argolid plain of the east Peloponnese in and blessed with a mild climate and natural springs, among all ancient theatres, the<br \/>\ntheatre at Epidaurus is the most beautiful and best preserved.<br \/>\nThe theatre is a unique architectural achievement through its admirable integration into the site as well as the perfection of its proportions and acoustics.<br \/>\nThe sound quality of the theatre is stunning, even if I was sitting at the top of the hill (where the theatre is located), I was able to hear the touristic guide clapping her hands.<a href=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/CDE2D463-AAD2-45C5-A170-EA063F1AA8B6.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8604\" src=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/CDE2D463-AAD2-45C5-A170-EA063F1AA8B6-640x427.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/CDE2D463-AAD2-45C5-A170-EA063F1AA8B6-640x427.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/CDE2D463-AAD2-45C5-A170-EA063F1AA8B6-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/CDE2D463-AAD2-45C5-A170-EA063F1AA8B6-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/old.istitutobrunofranchetti.edu.it\/giornalino\/wp-content\/CDE2D463-AAD2-45C5-A170-EA063F1AA8B6-800x533.jpeg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Breathing the mythological atmosphere of Mycenae\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nAccording to mythology, this was the town of the legendary king Agamemnon, the leader of the Greeks during the Trojan War. This place was also the setting of many myths in ancient Greek tragedies, especially the tragedies connected to Agamemnon and his family.\u00a0This magical atmosphere really inspired me and I was just wondering about coming<br \/>\nthrough the Lion Gate while\u00a0Agamemnon\u2019s wife\u00a0Clitemnestra was killing him.<br \/>\nVery emotional is the\u00a0Treasury of Atreus, dating<br \/>\nback to around 1300 BC, this\u00a0is the finest existing example of a domed tholos (Mycenaean tomb shaped like a beehive).\u00a0It&#8217;s wonderfully misnamed, since it has little to do with the mythical Atreus, or with his equally mythical son, Agamemnon, but the interior is truly awe-inspiring, with a 40m-long passage leading to the vast beehive-shaped chamber.
