As usual the Google I/O (Google’s developer meeting) opened with a keynote. This year the Mountain View Corporation focused on Android OS and the optimization other services.
Android M
Android M is the temporary name for this Developer preview. Coming this fall, the new version of the most popular mobile OS will introduce new features and new apps and services.
Such as the new App permissions, which will allow you to control what an app can or cannot do.
The new USB Type-C will be supported in Android M, this new plug can reduce the charging time of your devices.
Doze is a new algorithm for battery saving, the software, analyzing the period of time when the phone is used more, can put your device in a super low energy mode called “Deep sleep”. With Doze apps can sync with the Internet just when the phone is not “sleeping”, so you will not receive any notification unless that has an high priority.
Google Now on tap
Google Now is a functionality of the Search App, it is very useful to get information needed during the day. The app can understand your context, for example: where you are, what are you looking for, etc….
In Android M Google Now is getting smarter, and it is going to be incorporated throughout the phone. With this feature Now can understand the context on what is inside the phone. If your are texting about where you want to go for dinner, with a simple gesture the app can prompt a tab giving you more detailed information about nearby restaurants.
Offline services for Developing countries
Google is also looking forward to bring their products and services to the Developing Countries, to do so last year they introduced Android One: some cheap phones that share the same software coded by Google.
This year they announced a bunch of updates designed to make work Google Apps better with low connection as 2G or offline.
Project Brillo
Behind project Brillo there is the Internet of Things(IoF). IoF is a concept of a smart home where all the small devices as lightbulb or thermostat are connected to Internet.
Project Brillo is an operating system optimized for working with very tiny computers that don’t need so much calculation power.
This OS is connected with the network via Weave a new cross-platform communication protocol.
The object of your smart home can be controlled with an app on your Android phone (Google didn’t say if iOS will be supported in future).
