EARTH DAY CIVIC OBSERVANCE TO AVOID DISASTER

by Alexander Pirtac, 2F

Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22 worldwide, Earth Day Network’s mission is to raise awareness and mobilize the entire population to create a healthy and sustainable environment and protect the Earth for future generations. The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, activated 20 million Americans and launched the modern environmental movement. Twenty years later, Earth Day went global, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting environmental issues onto the world stage. More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.

I think everyone has the ethical right to a healthy, balanced and sustainable world and environment. Ghandi said: “Thank God men can`t fly and devastate the sky as they did with the land”. Today air travel is starting to pollute the world. Marine oil pollution and cargo ship traffic with port pollution devastate the sea. We should slow down and control pollution better.

The world problem is overproduction. The world population is increasing so many alternative artificial foods and goods are introduced.

I think we have to be less selfish and think a lot about the future generations who will be forced to bear the disaster made by us.
