2008 Chess Tournament In Vienna
From October 14th to 18th a traditional chess tournament among Venice, Köln, Znojmo and Vienna school teams was held in Vienna. Each team was composed by 4 players (plus one or two reserves). The competition took place in 7 rounds and each player had 45 minutes to beat his opponent, moreover it was divided into two categories: Under 16 and Under 19. The U19 contest was won by Liceo Classico Foscarini, 2nd place was won by a school of Vienna, while the Bruno managed to get a very good 3rd place. The U16 competition was dominated by Vienna: the Foscarini, which aspired to the victory, reached a disappointing 5th place. The Cup of the Cities, that is the prize for the best city in both tournaments (U16, U19), was won by Vienna; 2nd place went to Venice, which was the champion in 2007. The chess standard was average: neither very high, nor too low, except for some good and interesting players.
