The Sile’s source is found in a handful of streams hidden in a grove between Casacorba and Levada. It flows by Piombino Dese across the provinces of Padova and Treviso. Its journey to the Adriatic is longer than 95 kilometers, meandering through a not well defined marshy area, then across the fields southeast of Castelfranco Veneto, it reaches Treviso, touches some parts of Silea and Casale, and continues its lazy ride to the lagoon.
An exclusive area where the structures used by the ancient people of the river have been preserved: from the cavane for the storage of boats to the flat bottomed “pantane”, from the“casoni”to the mills and the the fish markets.
Even today one of the activities practiced along the Sile consists in freshwater fish farming like breeding the Sile sturgeon.
Educational projects are important to hand down historical ways of life to the younger generation.
In the last few years, the “population” of anglers who go fishing in the Sile river and nearby is increasing more and more. American anglers taught us this new type of fishing: bass fishing, which means fishing the black bass also called large mouth bass (from its big mouth!).
This type of fishing is great fun and very satisfying, that is why I go bass fishing!
You can go bass fishing all along the river from the source to Treviso, but the best area is around the quarries. You cannot go fishing in all of them, some are private and in some you must have a license. In the same places you can also fish for trout, pike or carp. The first two are very similar to bass fishing because you can use the same baits, as they are all predators, but I can’t help you about carp fishing because I don’t practice that type of fishing.
