THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE IN MY LIFE

dublin-cityscapeThis summer I went to Dublin for two weeks with the project “Move 2.0”; it was my first trip abroad without my family and I think it was the best one I did in my (short) life.

Before leaving my house, my friends and my family, I was really scared of this adventure, and sometimes I thought that I would given up the project, despite the fact that everyone told me it would be awesome. Luckily I didn’t refuse to leave Italy and I took the plane to Dublin. Now I understand why everyone told me it would be a beautiful experience.

First of all we visited some typical Irish places such as Glendalough, known as “the valley of the two lakes” in the Wicklow Mountains, Howth, the Guinness Storehouse and obviously the city centre of Dublin and then we had the possibility to interact with Irish people, that I found really friendly and helpful. During our trips I could notice something I really liked about Ireland: the range of colours of nature. We all know that Ireland is known as “the emerald island”, but nobody can understand how bright the colours are without visiting it. In fact grass and sky have a different shade of green and blue than the one we find in Italy, they are really bright and after seeing them I don’t appreciate the one we have here anymore. Even Dublin is really beautiful with its houses and streets of bricks.

My host family was really nice, they treated Mario and me as one of their family, so I felt like I was at home with my real family and despite the fact that it’s said that the food isn’t good, I ate some good things, like the Irish breakfast.

I improved my English too, because this was the purpose of the journey, however my purpose was to enjoy myself and make some new friends, and I think I did it well. During those two weeks I met some people that now are some of my best friends, that maybe I wouldn’t have met if I had chosen to stay in Italy. In addition to this I think I became more independent, sociable and maybe less shy than I was before this journey.

In conclusion, if you have the possibility to visit some foreign places without your family but you are scared of this opportunity, you should go straight and do it, because you won’t regret it if you are with your friends, you will enjoy yourself and you will always keep awesome memories of that experience.

Believe in me, I did the right thing going to Dublin, and probably I would have regretted it if I had stayed at home, after all this was the best thing I have ever done in my life.
