In Italy girls and boys have the same rights without any discrimination according to Italian Constitution.
Italian girls can attend the same schools and classes as boys. We learn together.
Italian women have the same opportunity of getting a job as men and they can do what they like to find their own way.
Unfortunately in some countries the rights of human beings aren’t the same. Some women can’t go out to work and girls can’t go to school and have an education.
We read an article about a Pakistani girl, Malala Yousafzai ,who the Taliban wanted to silence because, in a blog for the BBC Urdu service, she described her difficult experiences of trying to get an education under the power of the Taliban. They wanted to stop education for girls by killing her.
She survived and celebrated her 16-year-old birthday at the United Nations where world leaders usually sit to support the girls’ right to education. She now lives in England with her family and can go to school every day.
That article appealed to me because Italian students are often fed up with homework, teachers, and school, without realising that the best opportunity to build a better world without any discrimination is thanks to education!

Equal opportunity is a stipulation that all people should be treated similarly. The aim is that important jobs should go to those “most qualified” – persons most likely to perform ably in a given task –regardless of birth, upbringing, friendship ties to whoever is in power, religion, sex, ethnicity, race, caste, disability, age, or sexual orientation. Now in Italy Italian girls have equal opportunities because the Italian constitution says that there isn’t differences between males and females.
The past

In the past a woman belonged the head family member (father or husband). In the Family Code of 1865, women were denied the protection of legitimate children, as well as public office. Married women could not manage the money earned by their own work, because it belonged to their husbands.
Today, equality between women and men is one of the main principles of Community law.
EU legislation defines the principle of equal opportunities as the absence of barriers to participation in economic, political and social development of any individual for reasons related to gender, religion and belief, race and ethnic origin, disability, age, sexual orientation.
