The newly appointed school representatives meet their fellow students

by Marco Marangon 3A

On Monday 12th November a school meeting took place at every hour in the school gym of the “Giordano Bruno” Secondary School of Mestre-Venice.The third year students attended from 10:10 a.m. to 11:05 a.m (the 3rd class).

PassepartoutThe representatives (who had been elected last 20th October) introduced themselves to the students. They are are Irene Sbroggiò and Elisa Favaretto from “lista Passepartout”, Tullio Furlani and Alessandro Bonifacio from “lista Agnello”.

They let us know that the collapse of part of  the ground floor ceiling tiles   is not so worrying, because it was caused by a worker’s mistake: the school hall is still safe.

They announced a sit-in and a meeting which also teachers are invited to join and a students’ demonstration for Wednesday 14th November.
They told us that  taking part in the protest is very important because  the standards of the Italian School are going to be threatened by the Minister of Education (MIUR) austerity policies. Even the teachers’ working hours might be increased  from eighteen to twenty-four without any pay rise.

They told us that we might have one more week of holiday at Christmas to save on heating.

They said that the charity initiatives called “Brunosolidale project” will be carried out to help local people, for example serving in Ca’Letizia soup kitchen.
Then the newly appointed representatives of the “Consulta”, Francesco Franz and Tommaso Tagliapietra asked us if we had any problems to report to the Provincia authority.
